Quantitative Meteorology

Are you ready to dive into the exciting world of weather data and its impact on energy markets? Do you have a passion for complex topics and a drive to innovate in the energy sector?

In our new Fundamental Modelling team at Norlys Energy Trading (NET), we specialize in analyzing weather-related data to understand its impact on energy production and demand. This is crucial for predicting renewable energy production and integrating it efficiently into the power grid, reducing power price volatility and helping the green transition.

As a researcher in quantitative meteorology, your focus will be applying knowledge about fundamental meteorology to the energy markets. This may include recent research like AI-based forecasts and established knowledge such as weather regimes and tele-connections. Your work will result in actionable insights based on weather forecasts into how the energy markets react on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

Your role

  • Apply meteorology research in the context of energy trading e.g., extract information to generate signals or apply machine learning techniques to improve a forecast
  • Lead and/or contribute to projects applying machine learning to weather data
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in energy trading teams
  • Analyze weather and energy trading data to create innovative ideas and insights
  • Stay up to date on relevant quantitative meteorology research

Qualifications

  • M.Sc. in a relevant technical field (e.g., physics, engineering)
  • 3+ years' experience or Ph.D. in a relevant field of study
  • Quantitative meteorology experience is an advantage but not a requirement
Quantitative meteorology will be pivotal in providing a smooth transition to a green renewable energy future and this role is a unique opportunity for anyone with an interest in meteorology and machine learning.
