Legal Counsel / Legal Advisor - Employment law

Ongoing

Do you have a legal background and find satisfaction in making a difference and seeing the results of your work? Then now is your chance to work for an energy trading company, where the legal function is an essential cornerstone of the company’s overall success and where you and your work matter.

“Average lawyers know the law. Good lawyers know the law and the needs of their clients. Excellent lawyers know all of this and are empathetic listeners, true team players, with humble approaches and eagerness to change and learn something new every day. This enables excellent lawyers to think out of the box and to shape the future of their field and workplace.” - Johannes Leipold, Chief Legal Officer/Lawyer

In this job, you will be working closely with the HR department, helping to establish best practice standards and fail-safe procedures for all recruitment-related aspects. As our company is growing at a rapid rate, it is likely that other jurisdictions will come into play as well, where your advice will be vital to our success.

About the job

The primary focus is on building NET’s knowledge of employment law and drafting/expediting our employment agreements, which are governed by Danish, Singaporean - and soon - US law. Additionally, your secondary focus will be to work on all aspects of the legal function, and, beyond that, build knowledge of the energy market - how it works, and which technical and factual requirements influence the legal advice we provide to our colleagues and the company.

You will help the team to make the legal function a key player in all relevant internal and external aspects.

Dependent on your qualifications, experience and own interest/wishes you will potentially work closely with our Market Access and/or Compliance team.

Besides that, like all our employees, you will play a vital role in making this company the best workplace and energy-trading company by

  • Providing honest feedback to improve who we are and what we do on a daily basis
  • Helping other colleagues and departments wherever possible
  • Challenge yourself and your colleagues to find excellence.

NET’s legal function

The legal team is international and consists of three lawyers from Denmark, Romania and Germany and one student assistant (Denmark). The legal team is expected to grow further over the next couple of years, which will offer career opportunities.

The legal function is part of the company’s leadership group, reporting directly to the CEO and working on all sorts of matters such as:

  • Negotiating and amending (international) standard contracts
  • Drafting bespoke (international) contracts such as power purchase agreements
  • International employment contracts
  • Corporate affairs
  • Regulatory affairs and compliance issues (together with our Compliance department)
  • Improving the quality, quantity, and speed of our work throughout all areas
  • General risk assessments and much more

What are we looking for?

We know that excellence and talent can come in different shapes and forms. That is why it is less important to us how much experience you have, or if your educational background is purely legal or a mix of law and economics or something similar. It is more important to us that you fit well into the team, our company, and that we can see your passion for this opportunity in NET.

The candidate we are looking for:

  • Good language skills, written and spoken in Danish and English at an advanced level
  • Knowledge of Danish employment law is a prerequisite.
  • You have an interest in the energy sector and are willing to learn something new each day
  • You actively look for solutions, instead of just seeing problems
  • You take responsibility, you lead the way where necessary and support where needed
  • You are not afraid to fail, but are eager not to fail for the same reason twice.
  • Experience with common law contracts is an advantage
  • If you have lived, worked or studied abroad, it is of advantage

We strongly encourage both experienced professionals and newcomers to seek this opportunity.

We offer

  • 160 highly dedicated and friendly colleagues from more than 19 different countries
  • An exciting workday, where you actively embrace new possibilities and tasks that arise daily
  • The opportunity to grow and educate yourself further during your employment
  • An active staff association with many social activities all year round
  • A competitive salary and good pension agreement
  • Great work-life balance and flexibility
